Mobile App

Kivvo is currently a web app — you use it in your browser at kivvo.co.nz. There isn't a native mobile app yet. This page explains what that means today, what we're planning, and how to get the best mobile experience in the meantime.

The short version

  • Kivvo doesn't have a native iOS or Android app yet. Kivvo is a web app you use in your browser.
  • You can still use Kivvo on your phone. The web app is designed to work on mobile screens.
  • Add Kivvo to your home screen to get an app-like experience without installing anything from an app store.
  • We are considering a native app in the future. We're not committing to a timeline yet.
  • Beware of anything claiming to be a Kivvo app on an app store. There isn't one. If you see one, it's not us.

What Kivvo is today

Kivvo is a web application. That means:

  • You access it through your browser — Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.
  • You go to kivvo.co.nz to use it.
  • Nothing is installed on your device.
  • Updates happen automatically — you always have the latest version.

This is deliberate. A web app lets us:

  • Build and ship faster
  • Fix bugs immediately, without waiting for app store review
  • Support every device and platform from one codebase
  • Avoid the complexity of maintaining native apps for two platforms while being a two-person team

Using Kivvo on your phone

The Kivvo web app is designed to work on mobile screens. You can:

  • Sign in on your phone's browser
  • Create and manage goals
  • Set up and manage contributions
  • Make one-off contributions
  • Track your progress
  • Receive and read notifications
  • Contact support

Everything that works on desktop works on mobile. The layout adapts to fit your screen.

Add Kivvo to your home screen

You can make Kivvo feel more app-like by adding it to your phone's home screen. This gives you a shortcut and often opens Kivvo in a cleaner, full-screen view.

On iPhone (Safari):

  • Open Safari and go to kivvo.co.nz
  • Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up)
  • Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
  • Give it a name (e.g. "Kivvo") and tap Add
  • You'll now have a Kivvo icon on your home screen

On Android (Chrome):

  • Open Chrome and go to kivvo.co.nz
  • Tap the three-dot menu in the top right
  • Tap Add to Home screen or Install app
  • Give it a name and tap Add
  • You'll now have a Kivvo icon on your home screen

On other browsers:

Most mobile browsers have a similar "Add to Home Screen" or "Install" option in their menu.

This is not the same as a native app from an app store. It's a shortcut to the web app. But for most users, it feels very similar — you can tap the icon, and Kivvo opens just like an app.

What we're considering for the future

We're thinking about a native mobile app. It's on our longer-term radar, but we haven't committed to a timeline, and we don't want to promise something we can't deliver.

Why we might build one

  • Better performance on mobile. Native apps can feel faster and smoother than web apps.
  • Better access to native features. Things like biometric login, native notifications, camera, and other device features.
  • Better app store presence. Being in the App Store and Play Store helps with trust and discovery.
  • More predictable experience. Users get a version we've tested on their specific platform.

Why we might not build one (soon)

  • We're a two-person company. Building and maintaining native apps for two platforms is a significant amount of work.
  • The web app works on mobile. It covers most use cases already.
  • Native apps add a lot of operational overhead. App store reviews, platform-specific bugs, version management, and so on.
  • We'd rather do one thing well. A great web app might be better than two mediocre native apps.

What we'd build first

If we do build a native app, the likely path is:

  • Progressive Web App (PWA). This is a web app that can be installed and behaves more like a native app — offline support, home screen icon, push notifications. It's a middle step between "web app" and "native app".
  • One native platform first. Either iOS or Android, based on user demand.
  • The second platform later. Only if the first is successful.

We'll update this page when we have firm plans.

Security warning: fake Kivvo apps

There is currently no Kivvo app on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or any other app store.

If you see an app called "Kivvo" (or anything similar) on an app store:

  • It is not us. It's not affiliated with Kivvo.
  • Do not install it.
  • Do not enter your Kivvo login details into it.
  • Please report it to us via a support ticket.

Your Kivvo account is only accessible through Kivvo.co.nz. Don't enter your Kivvo credentials anywhere else.

Mobile-specific issues

If you're using Kivvo on mobile and something isn't working:

  • Try refreshing the page — sometimes a full reload fixes transient issues.
  • Try a different browser — for example, if Safari isn't working, try Chrome.
  • Check your internet connection.
  • Check whether you're on a VPN or proxy — sometimes these interfere with sign-in or payment flows.
  • Check our Status page to see whether there's a known outage.

If problems persist, submit a support ticket via the Support page.

What we recommend for the best mobile experience

To get the smoothest experience on mobile:

  • Use a modern browser. The latest version of Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android) is best.
  • Add Kivvo to your home screen. This gives you a cleaner, faster experience than opening it from a browser tab.
  • Enable notifications for your browser if you want to receive Kivvo notifications on your phone.
  • Keep your browser and OS up to date. Older versions may have issues with newer web features.
  • Use a stable internet connection when making contributions, so payments don't fail partway through.

Feedback on mobile experience

If you have feedback on how Kivvo works on your phone — including things that are hard to use, confusing, or broken — we want to hear it. Submit a support ticket via the Support page with:

  • Your device and operating system
  • Your browser
  • What you were trying to do
  • What happened instead
  • Any screenshots that help

Mobile feedback is especially valuable to us right now, because we're actively improving the mobile experience of the web app.
